Calculator for Reduced Risk of Early Recurrence (within 1 year) through Adjuvant TACE in Patients with Resected Hepatocellular Carcinoma

This model is a risk calculator for estimating the reduced risk of early recurrence (within 1 year) through adjuvant transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in patients undergoing curative-intent resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This online tool is useful in clinical practice for it can help clinicians identify patients who benefit most from postoperative adjuvant TACE.

The calculator was developed based on 1813 patients from 12 Chinese hospitals (559 patients receiving adjuvant TACE), and validated based on 777 patients (206 patients receiving adjuvant TACE). It is used to calculate the probability of early recurrence (with 1 year after surgery) for HCC patients who attempt to perform adjuvant TACE and those who attempt not to perform adjuvant TACE. Therefore, the reduced risk between the two estimates is the net benefit. This personalized calculator helps a lot in identifying patients who benefit most, improving the cost-effectiveness of adjuvant TACE.

Please note that this calculator does not specify a certain threshold at which adjuvant TACE should be performed, and the results obtained are for reference only. The final decision should be made after thoughtful discussion between clinicians and patients based on the actual situation.
